Physical Disabilities
Definition
According to the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research, physical disabilities are any physiological disorder, condition, cosmetic disfigurement or anatomical loss affecting one or more of the following body systems: neurological, musculoskeletal, special sense organs, respiratory (including speech organs), cardiovascular, reproductive, digestive, genitourinary, hemic and lymphatic, skin and endocrine.
Documentation Required
To receive services from EAS, you must provide the following documentation of your physical disability:
- Diagnosis of mobility impairment and a statement of functional limitations
- A copy of a recent Individualized Education Plan (IEP), if available
Accommodations
Your accommodations will vary according to your individual needs and the documentation provided. EAS will work with you to determine the accommodations most appropriate for you. Some of the accommodations you may receive if you have a physical or mobility disability include:
- Note taker, lab assistant, group lab assignments
- Classrooms, labs and field trips in accessible locations
- Adjustable tables, lab equipment located within reach
- Specialized adaptive equipment
- Disability parking permits
